Hands sprinkling BIOS fertilizer onto a houseplant pot

You know plants. So why is that one still stuck?

You've got a real collection, and most of it is doing fine. But there's always one: the hoya that hasn't pushed a leaf since spring, or the alocasia that isn't dying and isn't growing either. Nothing changed, and you can't figure out what's wrong.

Maybe you've tried a liquid feed. Mix, measure, pour, repeat every couple of weeks. Miss a round and you're right back where you started.

After 8 years of research, here's what I've found: plants are built to be fed by the life in their soil. Most potting mix doesn't have much life in it. That's what BIOS adds.

Roots bake a cake. Microbes eat it. Your plant gets fed 24/7.

Your plant's roots leak sugars into the soil. Think of it as a cake. Bacteria and fungi show up to eat it, and as they do, they poop out nutrients the roots can absorb. Plants have fed themselves this way for millions of years.

BIOS puts that partnership back in your pot. It's wheat bran fermented with live bacteria and fungi, plus kelp, alfalfa, insect frass and rock dust. The bran breaks down slowly, so the microbes keep feeding your plant around the clock.

  • Feeds 24/7 without ever burning your plants. No measuring to the millilitre, no worrying about overdoing it.
  • One sprinkle a month. No mixing, no measuring every time you water.
  • Works in the mix you already use: soil, moss or coco coir.

What growers notice: new growth points, bigger leaves, thicker roots, and sometimes blooms on plants that stopped flowering years ago.

What happens after you sprinkle it

  1. Day 1

    Sprinkle and water

Sprinkle one pouch (1 tablespoon) on top of the soil of a 6-inch pot and water like normal. Got a bigger plant in a 12-inch pot? Use both pouches on it.

  2. Days 2–3

    The fuzz shows up

White fuzz on the soil is healthy fungi coming out to say hello. It means your soil is alive.

“It's oddly satisfying to watch!” Jessica, Montréal, QC

  3. Days 10–14

    Look for new growth

New growth points, a fresh leaf, perkier stems. This is usually when you'll see a difference.

  4. Day 30

    Time for more

Each pouch feeds a 6-inch pot for a month. Liked what you saw? A 225g bag feeds up to 75 plants in 6-inch pots.

Hi, I'm Aaron. I got tired of mixing nutrients too.

I started growing in 2016 and got sick of pricey liquid nutrients and endless mixing. So I started fermenting my own fertilizer from Korean natural farming recipes. That led me deep into soil microbiology, and in 2021 it became BIOS.

Everything is handmade in Guelph, Ontario, with no synthetics, ever, and it's safe around your pets and kids. And if you have a question, you're emailing me, not a call centre. 🪴

Questions growers ask

Is the white fuzz on the soil mold?

It's healthy fungi, and it's a good sign. It usually shows up 2–3 days after you water and means your soil is full of life. If your plant lives somewhere really humid, mix the fertilizer into the top layer of soil instead of sprinkling it on top.

How soon will I see a difference?

Usually in 10–14 days. Look for new growth points, a fresh leaf, or perkier stems. Slow growers and plants resting through winter can take longer.

Will it work on my plants?

If it grows in soil or a soilless mix like moss or coco coir, yes: hoyas, monsteras, pothos, alocasias, philodendrons and more. There are two exceptions. It doesn't dissolve in water, so it's not for semi-hydro (leca, pon) or hydroponics. And for cacti and succulents, mix it into the soil instead of sprinkling it on top.

Is it safe around pets and kids?

Yes. BIOS has no synthetics, ever. It's made from things like wheat bran, molasses, kelp, alfalfa and rock dust. One note: if you're immunocompromised, mix it into the soil instead of sprinkling it on top.

Why do I pay $4.95 if it's free?

The fertilizer is free. The $4.95 covers packing it up and mailing it to you.

When will it arrive?

Usually 5–7 business days after you order. It comes as a flat pouch by Canada Post Lettermail, so it fits right in your mailbox. Lettermail isn't tracked, so if it's running late, just email me.

What if I don't see results?

Email me and I'll refund 100% of your $4.95. Same if you just don't love it. You don't need to send anything back.
