How To Use It 🔫
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this safe to use around pets and kids?
Absolutely. This is a completely natural soap that doesn't have any nasty additives so you can spray it in your home with stressing. However, the concentrate itself has a high pH (11.5-11.7) so if you get the raw soap on your skin and you have sensitive skin, just wash it off right away. When I make this I stick my arm up to my elbow in the soap and it's only ever got a little bit itchy if I don't wash it off right away. As for consuming it, please don't but know that if it does accidently happen for any reason that small amounts are generally considered safe, but large amounts can cause irritation, diharrea and vomitting.
Does this affect beneficial insects?
Unfortunately yes this will affect beneficial insects so I always recommend applying plant soap treatments prior to adding beneficial insects. Benenficials are more suited for prevention so this is actually a proper way to use them in conjunction.
Does it remove hard water stains on leaves?
No it doesn't. Generally you need to use something acidic like vinegar to remove hard water stains because they are usually calcium build up. Mix a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar into a litre of soft water, spray your leaves and wipe them down after to remove hard water stains.
Can I use this in my soil?
No unfortunately not. It's very alkaline with a pH of 11.5 so it will definitely throw off the balance of your soil pH which is ideally around 7. Leaves only for this one.
How long can the plant soap be mixed with water?
Once mixed you can let it chill indefinitely, it won't expire! Just give it a good shake before you use it.
Do my leaves need to dry before puting back under grow lights?
Absolutely you never want to spray any plant indoors or out, and expose them to light directly. Leaves are natually waxy to shed water so they don't burn so let them dry (takes 10 mins) before turning lights back on.
Do I need to rinse this off or wipe my leaves after?
Nope! It will dry pretty quickly and naturally biodegrades in 5-10 days. If you've got some stubborn dust or dirt on your leaves you can wipe them for sure but otherwise you're good to go once sprayed.
Why are you using Canola Oil?
To keep this method of plant protection affordable and most effective, canola is the answer. We only ever use food-grade canola oil with no additives. Canola oil also has the highest effectiveness when it comes to coating leaves, and fully protecting them.
Is this safe for rare/sensitive plants?
Our plant soap is very gentle but if you've got rare expensive plants or plants you know tend to be sensitive to sprays, always do a spot test first. Spray a section of a leaf, wait 3-5 days, and if no burning occurs, you're good to go!
Is this better than Neem?
100%. Neem is banned in Europe & Canada because it's toxic to humans and wildlife. Neem is imported from across the world and losses effectiveness very quickly. Our plant soap is locally made and never loses effectiveness. Say goodbye to stinky neem for good 👋.
