The Story of Bios
A marriage of science and soul.
Hey, I'm Aaron. The Founder of Bios...
Since I was a kid I've always wanted to make change in the world.
My Dad told my sister and I "if you can create free energy, or grow hair back, you'll be rich". So he instilled an inventor spirit in us early on.
Growing up in a small town called Wiarton, my family owned a Home Hardware store that served our community. I watched my parents work day and night to build a successful business and this was the foundation of my entrepreneurial spirit.
When I left home for College in Toronto, I really struggled to find my place and my identity. After graduating I began growing plants and felt like I had finally found where I belong.
A hobby quickly turned into an obsession as I discovered the ancient alchemy of making natural fertilizers & pesticides.
Why I started Bios...
During college I took a course called Water: A Life or Death Issue.
It showed all the ways that synthetic chemicals in agriculture were destroying our planet while poisioning our food and water.
This was a way I could make a big change so I decided to learn how to grow plants. I loved consuming cannabis so it just made sense to apply for a license to grow it medicinally.
I did what the internet said to do and spent $1000 on liquid organic fertilizers, spent tens of hours mixing and hauling water through the bush, and spent more money on organic soil.
At the end of the year I looked around at the forest and asked myself "How do plants just grow in the ground on their own?"
I went deep on forums online and discovered soil microbiology. Turns out plants have a symbiotic relationship with living organisms (microbes) in the soil that feed them 24/7, protect them from diseases, AND make them naturally pest resistant!! 🤯
I started experimenting and learning how to make my own soils, fertilizers, and pesticides.
The results were so amazing that I knew I had to share them.
ps. This is an actual plant I grew indoors using my own homemade living soil, and fertilizers.
The future of Bios?
My goal was to first bring this knowledge to my fellow houseplant growers.
I love having plants indoors and for some reason this knowledge of soil health was most lost in the world of houseplants.
As we become more obsessed with growing plants we naturally want to start growing outdoors (I did anyway). Growing your own food and medicine is just so rewarding. Getting to reconnect with sun, soil, and nature is healing.
We should be using products that are natural and helpful to our environment to grow our food. We should not be forced to consume chemicals and our food should in fact be medicine.
With your support joining the Bios family, together we will work towards supporting farmers with natural fertilizer and pesticide options so you don't have to worry buying food for your family.
